Remedial Massage

Genuine deep tissue treatment to address pain & injury, postural imbalances, mobility issues, and chronic muscular tightness.

Genuine Deep Tissue Work & Practical Recovery Support

If you’re frustrated with superficial treatments that feel more like a gentle rub than real bodywork—you’re not alone. In today’s world, with desk-bound routines, long hours of sitting, and stress stored in the body, most people develop dense, stuck, and dehydrated tissue. Light-touch massage doesn’t cut it.

What’s needed is slow, targeted, and sustained pressure—genuine deep tissue treatment that actually works with the resistance in the tissue, not around it. This isn’t about pushing harder for the sake of it. It’s about precision, patience, and proper technique—giving the body the time and depth of contact it needs to soften, recalibrate, and return to a more functional, relaxed state.

Unfortunately, truly skilled deep work is rare. Many treatments rush through routines without the sensitivity or attention to land where it counts. At Authentic Edge, We aim to deliver the kind of hands-on work that respects what’s actually going on in your body—and gives it the right kind of input to change.

What is the goal of Remedial Massage?

The primary goal of remedial massage is to improve the condition and function of the body’s soft tissue — muscles, fascia, and connective tissue. By working directly with areas of dysfunction, the treatment helps to restore tissue health, which in turn reduces symptoms like pain, stiffness, tightness, limited mobility, or even tingling and nerve-like sensations.

Rather than just masking discomfort, remedial massage aims to address the root of the issue, supporting the body to return to a more balanced, responsive, and pain-free state. Whether you’re feeling worn down, locked up, or just not quite right in your body, the focus is always the same: to meet the tissue where it’s at and help it function the way it’s meant to.

How does massage work?

1. Mechanical — Like Ironing a Shirt
Massage applies sustained pressure to soft tissue — much like ironing a shirt. The key factor is time under pressure, which softens the tissue by gently warming and elongating the fascia and muscle fibres. This helps to reduce stiffness, break up adhesions, and restore pliability to areas of tension.

2. Neurological — A Reset Signal to the Brain
Tight, “knotted” tissue often results from muscle fibres that aren’t properly releasing — the filaments remain bound together, causing persistent contraction. Applying pressure to the right point stimulates mechanoreceptors in the area, which sends a signal via the nervous system to the brain. This acts like a reset button, prompting the brain to interrupt the holding pattern and allow the muscle to relax.

3. Therapeutic Attention — Bringing Awareness to Heal
From a broader therapeutic lens, massage involves directed attention toward dysfunction. Just as in psychotherapy, where healing occurs by exploring a wound with the right kind of presence, physical touch in a troubled area brings awareness and support to the tissue under strain. This attention — paired with appropriate pressure — can unlock deeply held patterns and support the body’s natural healing processes.

How is this different Thai Massage or Chinese Massage?

Traditional styles like Thai or Chinese massage often follow a set routine. This can be enjoyable and relaxing — especially if you like knowing what to expect each time — but it may not always address the specific needs of your body on a given day. These styles can vary widely in quality and depth depending on the practitioner and their training.

Our approach is different. We don’t follow a one-size-fits-all routine. Instead, we apply targeted, sustained pressure based on where your body actually needs it. Especially in people who’ve experienced long-term stagnation — from stress, sitting, or inactivity — tissue often becomes dense or unresponsive. We aim to connect directly with these areas and support real change, not just temporary relief.

How is this different from seeing a Physiotherapist

Physiotherapists are excellent for diagnosing injuries and prescribing rehabilitation exercises specific to the affected tissues. However, their sessions often focus more on movement correction than hands-on treatment. Appointments are typically short and may not provide the deep manual work that congested tissue sometimes requires.

A remedial treatment fills this gap. We specialise in hands-on work that goes deep, slowly and precisely, helping to unwind long-held tension and stagnation. While exercise and rehab have their place, we believe that real, lasting change often starts by first releasing the tissue manually — allowing movement, strength, and function to return more naturally.

What will we do in the session? - What would a typical session look like?

Genuine deep tissue treatment on the target areas.

A discussion regarding determining the cause of the issue, and a behavioural analysis to discuss how to address the issue in a sustainable way alongside the treatment pathway.

Any relevant exercise that could assist to improve the condidtion of the tissue of the relevant issue.

What's the cause? Can I be more preventative?

Targeted treatment is one of the best starting points for improving the condition of tissue.  However, it is the lifestyle and behavioural patterns which lead to the imbalance in the body over time.  As such, it is wise to ascertain what the underlying cause of the issue is, and design adjustments to the behaviours which have created the issue to begin with.  Treatment and lifestyle adjustments are best used in conjunction to relieve pain and discomfort in the immediate, and also determine a medium to long term solution.  Adjustments to behaviour are usually not complex, but with these small and consistent lifestyle tweaks, we can bring our bodies back to a happier baseline.
